Manuscript Wish List

Following our winter break, we are once again open to submissions from authors seeking representation. Our submissions page provides full details of the genres we represent, but we thought we’d dig a little deeper here and take a look at the types of projects we’d love to find in our mailbox this year.

Contemporary Fiction
We’re looking for contemporary fiction projects for young adult and middle grade readers only, and we’d especially love to find a talented British author of fun, comedic novels for the “tween” age group, or of light-hearted, romantic fiction for young adults. We’d love to see some contemporary Shakespeare retellings (especially A Midsummer Night’s Dream); quirky comedy along the lines of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion; or a Breakfast Club type story for a new generation. We’re also actively looking for contemporary projects with the high stakes of Ally Carter’s work, or Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Naturals series.

Urban Fantasy
In adult fiction, we’re still on the lookout for a classic adult urban fantasy novel with a really fresh feel. We’d love to discover the next Laurell K Hamilton, Charlaine Harris or Jim Butcher! We’re open to stories about vampires and werewolves, but we’d much rather read about supernatural creatures we haven’t seen before. We’re looking for unusual settings, fast-paced plots, and strong main characters (both male and female) who readers will remember long after the final page.

Horror Fiction
We’re looking for great horror fiction for all ages (middle grade through to adult). We’d love to see a YA Harper’s Island or some Asian-set horror (think Death Note). We’re looking for horror fiction with a historical basis; gothic supernatural horror (think Sleepy Hollow or The Skeleton Key); and post-apocalyptic horror. In adult fiction, we’d love to find some supernatural crime and horror. When it comes to blood and gore, we believe less is more, so we’re not looking for anything too violent or graphic. But we do love ghost stories, urban legends, and things that go bump in the night!

Don’t worry if your project or genre of choice isn’t listed above though – we like to keep an open mind, and we love to be surprised, so we look forward to reading every submission sent our way. To find out more about how to query us, visit our submissions page. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
